Gatwick delays caused by poor weather and staff sickness
Hub reports air traffic restrictions in England and Europe

Gatwick airport has reported flight delays on Thursday (September 8) because of poor weather and staff sickness.
The airport tweeted just before noon to say: “Air traffic restrictions caused by poor weather across Southern England and parts of Europe, and short notice sickness in our control tower, are likely to cause delays for much of the day. We apologise to passengers impacted by today’s disruption.”

A spokesperson for Gatwick said: “Restrictions are in place across much of the UK, France and Germany due to poor weather – which is expected continue for much of today. Current average delay for arrivals in between 90 and 120 minutes.”
Elsewhere, a spokesperson for Heathrow said it had not seen had any impact on its schedule due to poor weather.
A Stansted spokesperson said: “There are flow rate restrictions in the south east due to weather but not having too much of an impact at present at STN.”
Manchester said it was not aware of any issues, while London City airport reported “no operational disruption” – although a warning about thunder was in place.
Last month, easyJet was forced to cancel at least 26 flights to and from Gatwick on August 23 because of air traffic control restrictions imposed due to staff sickness.
And on August 17, Gatwick warned travellers about delays and cancellations because of heavy rain in the south of England and parts of Europe, which saw the imposition of air traffic control restrictions.
