Hollywood Critics Association Film Awards: “CODA” Wins Best Pic, “Power of the Dog’s” Jane Campion Ties for Best Director

“CODA” is gaining momentum leading up to film’s biggest night. Sian Heder’s sophomore feature took home the the top honor at the SAG Awards on Sunday, Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, and the coming-of-age pic was just named Best Picture at the Hollywood Critics Association Awards.

Heder also landed Best Adapted Screenplay for the story of an aspiring singer who is the only hearing member in a Deaf family. After making history as the first Deaf actor to win an individual SAG Award, Troy Kotsur claimed the prize for supporting actor at the Hollywood Critics Association Awards as well.

Jane Campion and Denis Villeneuve tied for Best Director. The former was recognized for “The Power of the Dog,” a Western set in 1925 Montana, and the latter for sci-fi epic “Dune.”

Other winners included Kristen Stewart, who landed Best Actress honors for her portrayal of Princess Diana in “Spencer,” and Ariana DeBose, who was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her depiction of Anita in “West Side Story.” Head over to Variety to check out a complete list of winners.
