Put sustainability first on flights with carton packaging

Investments in green fuel and new technologies might get all the headlines when it comes to carbon footprint reduction in the aviation industry, but taking a closer look at beverage containers can also contribute. And with customers increasingly asking about companies’ sustainability credentials when they travel, now is the time to consider a new way to package water on board.

Here are three top benefits that airlines can experience when they make the switch to water cartons:

1. They’re predominately made from renewable materials

Tetra Pak’s cartons are on average made from 70% paperboard – a renewable material. All the paperboard in Tetra Pak’s cartons is FSC certified, meaning it is sourced from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources.

They also contain Bonsucro-certified plastic, a renewable raw material that grows back. As a result, using Tetra Pak can help airlines to increase their use of renewable materials while substantially reducing their use of plastic. Plus, they’re lightweight too.

2. They’re recyclable and save space

In an environment where space is limited, such as on board an aircraft, ensuring waste is kept to a minimum is important. Tetra Pak’s water cartons are simple and easy for passengers to use and designed to be compressed to lie fully flat when empty, saving space.

And where collection and recycling are available, used beverage cartons can become a valuable raw material for other products.

3. They offer branding opportunities

The four flat sides to the carton gives companies the chance to create some eye-catching and impactful wrap-around branding. Airlines can work with Tetra Pak to take advantage of the 360-degree printable surface to appeal to passengers on board.

Printing flexibility also means that several designs can run same time and be updated to reflect current consumer trends.

Tetra Pak’s cartons range from holding 250ml to 1.5l, so whichever way airlines choose to serve water, they can select a style and format that works for them.
