Life is full of twists and challenges that shape us into who we are meant to be. Reflecting on my journey—from Pune to Dallas to New York City—I see how each step contributed to the healthcare professional I am today. While the path wasn’t easy, my passion for healing and helping others remained my driving force.
The Spark of a Dream: From India to Global Aspirations
Born and raised in India, I was always drawn to explore beyond my surroundings. My fascination with the human body led me to pursue a Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy at Dr. D.Y. Patil College in Pune. I was determined to excel, earning the highest grades, a gold medal, and serving as President of the Student Council. In 2020, I was honored to be named Valedictorian, recognizing my academic success and contributions to the college community.
Taking a Leap of Faith: Moving from India to the U.S.
After graduation, I moved to Dallas, Texas, to pursue a Master’s in Kinesiology. Convincing my family wasn’t easy, as I was the first woman from my town considering studying abroad. But with their support, I made the leap. The transition was tough—no family, no familiar faces—but I adapted, making new friends and finding strength in my journey.
A New Chapter in Leadership: South Asian Student Association (SASA)
In Dallas, I was asked to become president of the South Asian Student Association (SASA). Despite the pressures of academics and adapting to a new culture, I embraced the role. It taught me the importance of fostering community, celebrating diversity, and making a meaningful impact. Organizing events and supporting fellow students enriched my leadership skills and broadened my worldview.
The PT License Exam: A Milestone in My Career
The next challenge was the U.S. Physical Therapy (PT) License exam, which required months of preparation. I passed on my first attempt and secured an internship in New York City. Working near Radio City Music Hall symbolized all I had worked for. Soon after, I was offered a full-time position at a clinic in Jackson Heights, New York.
Becoming a Clinician: Specializing in Sports Injuries & Rehabilitation
At the clinic, I specialize in musculoskeletal conditions, particularly sports injuries. My role involves not just clinical expertise but emotional intelligence as well. From treating athletes to guiding patients through post-surgical rehabilitation, I use evidence-based physical therapy and holistic techniques like Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy to ensure recovery and improve patients’ lives.
Building a Legacy of Education and Empowerment
While my clinical practice grows, my passion for education remains strong. In 2023, I launched the “Let’s Talk About Health by Bhavna” podcast, where over 150 healthcare professionals have shared insights. The podcast connects global experts and empowers the next generation of healthcare professionals by discussing topics like injury prevention and mental health in rehabilitation.
