Lotus Outreach has announced they will expand their humantiarian reach beyond India and Cambodia to global regions.
Lotus Outreach International, a humanitarian non-profit organization that aims to empower women and children living in poverty, has announced they are expanding their work beyond India and Cambodia to global regions, including Vietnam, Brazil, Guatemala, and the United States.
The announcement comes following the 30th anniversary of Lotus Outreach, which was founded in 1993 in Himachal Pradesh, India by Khyentse Norbu. The organization initially sought to help refugees from Nepal. Now, 30 years later, their focus is on the empowerment of women and girls by supporting access to education, skills and job-training, anti-trafficking, and health and water services.
“I am so moved by the impact of empowering one girl, who goes on to transform the lives of her siblings, family, friends, and community,” writes president Patty Waltcher in the organization’s 30th anniversary announcement outlining their new efforts.
“Lotus Outreach has helped hundreds of thousands of people through the brilliance of the girls and young women we have supported over the years in India and Cambodia. We will now expand our work to new regions, to scale our impact globally through partnerships,” Waltcher writes.
Lotus Outreach International’s work is largely supported by donations, including their “1,000 Coffee” initiative, which aims to inspire 1,000 people to donate the cost of a coffee monthly for women’s empowerment. To date, 215 people and counting are signed up for the initiative.
