Meta Acquires the Threads.com URL

If you were confused as to where to find Threads on the web, this could make it easier.

Meta Acquires the Threads.com URL

Here’s a quick one which could make it a little easier for people to find Meta’s Threads platform on the web.

According to TechCrunch, Meta has now secured the rights to the “Threads.com” domain name, which had been owned by a messaging company that went by the same name.

Up till now, the Threads app has been accessible via “Threads.net” because Meta couldn’t get the other Threads company to part with the URL. But back in June, the other Threads was sold to Shopify, which means that the company no longer exists as a separate entity.

And now, according to website domain registration data, “Threads.com” is owned by Instagram, which likely suggests that you’ll soon be able to access the Threads app via the .com listing.

Which is not a major change, and will likely have little to no impact on how you use the app.

But then again, “Threads.com” has seen a huge spike in popularity since the launch of Meta’s text-based app, showing that a lot of people have been visiting the wrong address.

Does that mean that many more people will now be signing up to Threads, as opposed to a random messaging app?

I mean, I doubt it’s going to boost Threads user count by millions, but it could be a contributor to the app’s overall growth.

Meta hasn’t provided any info on its plans for “Threads.com” as yet.
