Mimi Leder has signed a multi-year, overall deal with Apple TV+, home to “The Morning Show,” which she executive produces and has received an Emmy for directing. According to Deadline, the pact ensures that the streamer will have a first-look on streaming features and an exclusive deal for any series that Leder develops.
The “Deep Impact” helmer earned accolades for her work directing TV’s “The Leftovers” before going on to direct Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic “On the Basis of Sex.” She earned two Emmys for her work on “ER” — until 2017, she was the last woman for 22 years to have won an Emmy for directing in a drama series. Reed Morano followed in her footsteps when she was recognized for “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Leder was also nominated for an Emmy for “The West Wing.”
Leder’s work directing “The Morning Show” earned her an Emmy nomination for the Season 1 finale. Recently renewed for a third season, the drama sees Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston starring as hosts of a popular morning TV show. Leder is set to direct the entire upcoming season.
