NFT festival comes to NYC and Etsy and Pinterest report earnings: The Week Ahead
Marketing and media events to watch this week.
Nov. 1
The United Nations Climate Change Conference, which began on Oct. 31, continues through Nov. 12. Ahead of the event, a number of brands have highlighted their own environmental credentials in their campaigns, including Hitachi, McDonald’s and eBay. The United Nation Development Programme, which focuses on addressing global inequities, also debuted its biggest campaign to date, a blockbuster ad starring a dinosaur with a dire warning.
Dia de Los Muertos begins. The two-day Mexican and Latin American holiday celebrating deceased loved ones increasingly has been highlighted by brands. Among those putting out messages this year are Modelo, El Pollo Loco and Doritos.
Today marks the start of Native American Heritage Month.
Nov. 2
It’s Election Day and voters are being bombarded with ads in Virginia. Democrat Terry McAuliffe is competing with Republican Glenn Youngkin in what Roanoke, Virginia’s WSLS-TV says is the most expensive gubernatorial race in the state’s history, with the candidates raising a combined $155 million.
Nov. 3
Etsy will release third-quarter earnings. The online marketplace reported a 23% rise in revenue for its second quarter as it continues to distinguish itself as a destination for unique gifts. A new holiday ad campaign, due out this week, continues this narrative.
Marisa Thalberg, executive VP and chief brand and marketing officer at Lowe’s, will appear on Ad Age Remotely to discuss the retailer’s holiday marketing plans in a year plagued by supply chain challenges and ever-changing consumer behavior.
Nov. 4
Pinterest reports third-quarter earnings. Analysts are predicting double-digit revenue increases as more marketers turn to the social platform as a safe haven for their advertising dollars. However, the failure of a recent prospective acquisition by PayPal has caused the brand’s stock to drop in recent days.
NFT investment fund Metapurse will hold what it’s billing as the first-ever NFT-focused music, art and technology festival, Dreamverse, at New York City’s Terminal 5. The two-part event will feature an art gallery during the day and a party at night. The latter will feature the first public showing of digital artist Beeple’s “Everydays: The First 5000 Days,” the most expensive NFT that sold at Christie’s for a record $69 million.
ABC focuses its hit “Singalong”-special franchise on the music of Queen at 8 p.m. ET. Among the artists scheduled for “The Queen Family Singalong”: Adam Lambert, performing “The Show Must Go On,” and OneRepublic, covering “We Are the Champions”—as well as you and your loved ones singing along to all the songs in your living room, if ABC has its way. Darren Criss is set to host.
