Course Description:

The span of time between birth and death is what we call life. Since time immemorial, people have been seeking to lengthen this period. Now, more than ever, we have both the information and resources to truly maximize our lives – qualitatively and quantitatively. This course will give you the tools and techniques to enhance both longevity and quality of life.

In our western world, certain factors have helped lengthen the lifespan: dietary adjustments, exercise, proper sleep, medicine, medical intervention, greater health awareness, less arduous living conditions, and more. At the same time, there are stark challenges to our overall well-being including rising rates of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, chronic illness, addiction, as well as the vast array of mental health issues, and more.

Yoga offers a beautiful balance between mind and body, and the yogis rely on both facets to maximize one’s state of being, both in the moment and over the long haul. According to the yogis, the human body was built to last 120 years disease-free, and the mind is ageless. We will explore specific yogic teachings aimed at longevity: “the yogic secrets for a long life” that promote physical health, mental acuity, emotional stability, and spiritual growth. And we will look at effective techniques from around the globe and see how those align with yogic teachings – embracing, and at times merging, the two to achieve best possible outcomes.

This course will be a grand tour. Be ready to glean over familiar topics with a new eye of awareness, delve deeper into key micro-points, scan a wide array of existing resources, consider the mind-body connection, and put theory into practice. You will chart your current lifestyle and personally select arenas for improvement to create your own “blue zone”. Whether young or old, fit or otherwise, all are welcome as we aim to maximize our potential for a healthy and long life.

Note: A special feature of our RenYoga University courses is the ongoing dialogue achieved through Q & A sessions recorded separately in between classes that address a wide-range of related topics.

Questions & comments will be welcomed anytime via email (or here) and extra Zoom sessions will be conducted by the instructor to answer particular questions. These Q & A Zoom sessions will become part of the course catalog and be made available to all attendees.

This course will be a unique combination of eastern / yogic techniques and western lifestyle research to maximize our physical fitness, mental wellness, and spiritual growth for an optimal life. 

Format:

– A welcome packet and course materials will be sent to registrants a few days before the course begins.
– The five live classes will be a combination of lecture, discussion, and Q & A. The game plan is to begin each class with a presentation of information (55 – 60 min), followed by our interactive session.
– Weekly emails will serve as a bridge between classes.
– Questions will be accepted and replied to throughout the duration of the course via video.
– All registrants will have access to Zoom replays of the classes.

Note: For those who do not register, each class will be available a la carte for a rental fee of $25. The course materials will also be available for $15, but you will not have access to the weekly emails.
