Buddhist teacher Rev. angel Kyodo williams has announced details of what she describes as her “final project,” titled “Healing Race Portal,” which will begin with an inaugural experiential event, “Being Black, Healing Black,” from September 7-10, 2024 in Montgomery, Alabama.

Being Black, Healing Black will bring together Black leaders through a public nomination process for a three-day in-person event to “experience a radically reimagined approach to confronting the legacy of, contending with, and ultimately, healing race.” The event will be lead by Rev. angel and psychotherapist and author of My Grandmother’s Hands Resmaa Menakem. It will take place at The Legacy Museum in Montgomery, which offers a “powerful, immersive journey through America’s history of racial injustice.”

Being Black, Healing Black is the first of three events planned toward the creation of the Healing Race Portal. Nominations are now open to identify 50 Black leaders from a diverse skillset and background who have dealt with racialization and are “dismantling barriers, shifting culture, and leading Black futures” to attend the event.
