Petsch in "Riverdale"

Madelaine Petsch is set to wreak havoc on another high school. Best known for her role as Cheryl Blossom, Queen Bee on The CW’s “Riverdale,” she leads “Jane,” a YA thriller that marks Sabrina Jaglom’s directorial debut. Variety reports that Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to the pic with plans to release it theatrically this fall. “Jane” will debut simultaneously on Creator+, which “produces feature-length films in partnership with digital creators and monetizes through their fanbases across mobile, web, and connected TV,” per the source.

Penned by Jaglom and Rishi Rajani, the film follows Olivia (Petsch), a perfect-seeming teen who is struggling to deal with grief brought on by a recent loss of a friend. After getting deferred from her dream school, she begins to spiral out of control, launching a social media-fueled rampage against those that stand in the way of her success,” Variety teases.

In addition to starring in “Jane,” Petsch, whose other credits include “Sightless” and “F the Prom,” is among its producers. Co-starring with her in the film are Oscar winner Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”) and Chlöe Bailey, the five-time Grammy-nominated singer who recently signed on to topline “Praise This,” a youth choir comedy that’s being helmed by Tina Gordon.

“We are excited to work with Sabrina, Madelaine, and the team at Creator+ to bring this sophisticated and smart thriller to worldwide audiences,” said James Huntsman, Blue Fox’s founder. “We are thrilled to partner with them on this innovative model to produce and promote content.”

Jaglom added, “I’m so excited that Creator+ has teamed up with Blue Fox to expand the release of ‘Jane.’ Over the course of making the film, it became crystal clear that the themes of social media-fueled anxiety and internal pressure resonated strongly, so I’m thrilled to be bringing it to wider audiences this fall. ‘Jane’ has been a huge labor of love for me and our whole team and I can’t wait for people to enjoy the dark, thrilling, and emotionally engaging ride.”

Blue Fox will be introducing “Jane” to international buyers at Cannes Film Festival, which is taking place May 17-28.
