"Miranda's Victim"

Abigail Breslin’s latest project is set to open the 2023 of the Santa Barbara Film Festival, per Deadline. The “Zombieland” and “Little Miss Sunshine” actress toplines “Miranda’s Victim,” a courtroom drama helmed by Michelle Danner (“The Runner”) that will kick off the 38th edition of the fest, which runs from February 8-13.

Based on the true story of Trish Weir (Abigail Breslin), the film revisits how Weir was kidnapped and raped in 1963. “Committed to putting her assailant in prison, Trish’s life is destroyed by America’s legal system as she triggers a law that transforms the nation,” the source details.

A woman-directed title is also closing the fest: Chandler Levack’s “I Like Movies,” a coming-of-age story about the friendship between a 17-year-old boy who works at a video rental store and his older female manager.

Other films set to screen include Trish Neufeld’s “Dancing with Mom,” a doc exploring the director’s role as a caregiver to her mother, and Caylee So’s “The Harvest,” the story of a son who returns home to be with his ailing father.

Had over to Deadline to check out the fest’s complete lineup.
