S’pore jobs portal FastJobs sees up to 40% increased hiring from various sectors since April

There has been a 15 per cent increase in the total number of recruitment postings on Singapore jobs portal FastJobs, from a year ago. In addition, more Malaysians are now finding jobs in Singapore.

The jobs portal said that several sectors are seeing the bulk of this growth, with top recruitment postings coming from sectors offering jobs for warehousing and logistics, hospitality and F&B, sales, retail, marketing, administrative and clerical, and roles for customer service or receptionists.

Job postings in the hospitality and F&B industry grew by 28 per cent from 2021 to 2022 when comparing the March to April (March 21 to April 17) time range, which ties in with the removal of dine-in restrictions and group size limits announced in late March 2022.

Job roles in sales, retail and marketing had an 18 per cent increase in job postings in the same period, while administrative or clerical and customer service and receptionist roles registered 33 per cent and 40 per cent increases, respectively.

“The easing of restrictions only bodes well for the economy, and we definitely expect to see a recovery and even greater demand in many sectors as companies begin to restart their hiring efforts, including in the tourism and travel-related sectors,” commented Lim Huishan, General Manager, FastJobs Singapore.

More Malaysians applying for jobs in Singapore

The jobs portal also revealed that more Malaysians are applying for jobs in the city state after Singapore’s reopening announcement.

FastJobs saw a 100 per cent increase in the number of Malaysians applying for jobs through their portal when comparing the March to April four-week period in 2021 to 2022.

According to 2019 national statistics, around 952,000 Malaysians are residing in Singapore and about 350,000 Malaysians cross the causeway daily to commute to work or school.

“We also saw a major increase in the number of applicants from foreigners on the
platform. This segment of applicants increased year-on-year by 120 per cent in the March to April four-week period from 2021 to 2022,” the jobs portal said.

While Singaporeans and Permanent Residents still make up the bulk of job applicants on the platform, the reopening of the border should provide some much-needed help towards easing the manpower crunch in certain sectors as seen by the influx of Malaysian applicants, it added.
