While the total U.S. hotels under construction and in the final planning stages at the end of March 2022 were notably lower than one year prior, properties in other planning stages increased significantly, STR announced.
Total U.S. rooms in the planning stage at the end of the first quarter increased 26.3 percent year over year, while rooms under construction dropped 15.7 percent and rooms in the final planning stage decreased 16.8 percent, according to STR.
Throughout the U.S., about 155,000 rooms are under construction, led by New York with about 14,300 rooms, Nashville with about 4,400, Miami with about 3,450 and Detroit with about 2,600 rooms.
