Virgin Atlantic’s Heathrow passenger lounge has undergone a huge refurbishment and now includes new wellness and cinema features.

In time for the lounge’s 20th year of operation at London Heathrow Terminal 3, the airline’s “Clubhouse” has undergone its first phase of a redesign.

Airline bosses say the next stage will include the eventual opening of an outdoor roof terrace.

Available to its Upper Class (business) customers, the refreshed area features a new cinema, work pods and a gallery area to relax in before flying.

Two new pop-up wellness experiences are also currently available, including three Somadomes, which are enclosed pods that provide light therapy and sound healing for meditation. Until 31 May, guests can experience a complimentary session in one of the Somadomes.

Meanwhile, Virgin has also partnered with London-based wellness company Secret Spa to offer treatments such as express massages, facials and manicures until the pop-up ends on 30 April.

Also installed in the lounge is a Royal Box, which the airline describes as a “theatrical take on the VIP experience” that first launched in Virgin’s Los Angeles Clubhouse.

The invitation-only space offers uninterrupted runway views and complimentary champagne.

The lounge’s two work pods are styled to resemble some of Virgin Records’ studios, complete with “on air” signs.

The main area of the lounge, the Gallery, has a range of seating suited to business travellers, groups and couples.

Juha Jaervinen, the chief customer officer at Virgin Atlantic, said: “The Clubhouse is an iconic part of the Virgin Atlantic experience, and we’re proud to be unveiling a bold new chapter at Heathrow.

“This investment reflects our commitment to continually innovating for our customers, combining wellbeing, entertainment and distinctive design in a way only Virgin Atlantic can.

“From our Royal Box to our new wellness partnerships, we’ve reimagined the pre-flight experience to deliver something truly memorable.”

Many of the Clubhouse’s other features have also remained in place, including a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu that can be eaten in its Brasserie section or elsewhere in the lounge by scanning a QR code.

Alongside Virgin Upper Class customers, those flying with Delta Air Lines can also access the lounge up to three hours before departure, depending on the type of ticket booked.
