Tributes paid to Scottish ‘travel legend’ Denise Holmes

Tributes have been paid following the death of Scottish industry stalwart Denise Holmes.

She spent almost 20 years with Thomas Cook in Scotland managing one of its flagship shops before becoming regional manager and a further 15 years for Emirates, where she spearheaded the launch of Glasgow, Newcastle and Edinburgh services.

Holmes founded and ran her own consultancy business before joining Qatar Airways as key account manager for Scotland after the pandemic in 2021.

The Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association said it was deeply saddened by her passing.

The SPAA said: “Denise is perhaps best remembered as a highly-respected and effective senior manager in Scotland on behalf of Emirates and latterly Qatar Airways.

“She was also active over many years in the SPAA, in her role representing those airlines.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her husband Andy, daughter Jade, family, friends, and colleagues.

“Denise will be sorely missed by the Scottish travel industry.

“She was a true legend and a cherished friend to many.”

Agency Travel Matters posted on LinkedIn: “Denise was a travel legend, and well known and loved by so many in this industry.

“She will be greatly missed, and lovingly remembered.”
