Work starts on 19th American Cruise Lines ship

A 19th new ship is to be added to the fleet of American Cruise Lines.

Construction has started on American Legend, the fourth new catamaran in a series of 12 small vessels designed to operate US coastal cruises.

The 100-passenger vessel is due to enter service in late 2024 following sister ships American Eagle, American Glory and American Libertywhich are due to begin sailing in the next 12 months.

Announced in January 2022, the dozen small ships are designed to sail almost any domestic cruise itinerary, according to the company. 

The form of the hull allows for an activity platform at the stern equipped with kayaks and a large tender for exploration directly from the ship.

American Cruise Lines has has almost tripled its fleet in the past five years, operating more than 50 itineraries across 35 US states.
