X updates third-party livestream support

X has launched an updated livestream API, which will enable third-party video platforms to facilitate X streams, and expand the management options for X video broadcasts.

The company said that the updated livestream API has been rebuilt from the ground up with expanded functionality that will enable creators to schedule broadcasts, moderate live chat and go live using various streaming providers.

The full functionality includes the capacity to manage persistent RTMP streams; the ability to create, publish and monitor broadcasts; the ability to schedule broadcasts;  the capacity to read and respond to live chat; and the capability to moderate chats, with options for muting and booting viewers.

The updated livestream API is another step towards facilitating more live video content in the app. It should also help with driving more engagement, which aligns with X’s focus on real-time discussion.

In July, X launched an updated livestreaming command center within its Creator Studio platform, which was designed to make it easier for creators to schedule and run their live broadcasts in the app.

In combination with this new livestream API, the platform could see a lot more video streams being fed into the X system, which could drive more video engagement in the app.
