Holidays can now be booked directly on TikTok for the first time
The app has partnered with Booking.com and Expedia
TikTok has introduced a travel feature for users to book hotels and experiences as they scroll.
The new tool, TikTok Go, allows users to “discover and book local services”, including hotels, attractions, and tours directly on the app. It is currently only available to those in the US.
“Built into the app more than 200 million Americans use, TikTok Go helps connect the places and experiences people discover on TikTok with the businesses behind them,” said TikTok.
TikTok Go will utilise videos, search and location pages to display users with details and availability for booking their travel.
The app has partnered with brands including Booking.com, Expedia, Viator, GetYourGuide, Tiqets and Trip.com for the service.
All users aged 18 and above will be able to book an experience or stay using the new feature.
Creators who feature hotels, attractions and local services on their platforms can connect their content directly to bookings to earn through commissions and campaigns, said TikTok.
Adam Presser, CEO of TikTok USDS Joint Venture, said: “Every day on TikTok, millions of people discover where to eat, where to stay, and what to do next. TikTok Go connects that moment of inspiration directly to the businesses behind it, and that’s good for creators, good for local businesses, and good for communities.”
Mark van der Linden, VP Partnerships for Booking.com, added: “We’re excited to collaborate with TikTok to turn those ‘I wish I were there’ moments into real stays with TikTok Go.”
Earlier this year, it was reported that holidaymakers are returning to travel agents to book their trips away.
Consumer champion Which? surveyed more than 2,500 people about their experiences of using a high street travel agent in Britain. Some 94 per cent of customers said they were “satisfied”. When asked why, 60 per cent of people said they wanted to “talk through their options with a real person”, with 36 per cent using a travel agent due to a “complex itinerary”.
