Ākāśa Dhātvīśvarī (आकाशधात्वीश्वरी) is the Prajna Wisdom Mother of the Buddha Family (Akasha Datvishvari) in the center of the mandala of Five Buddha Families. She is an emanation form of White Tara, as Queen of Space. She also emanated as Yeshe Tsogyal, the great wisdom dakini of Guru Rinpoche. She brings Ultimate Wisdom and overcomes the Poison of Delusion and Ignorance. Her mantra is:

oṃ sarva buddha jñāna aṃ svāhā

Her mantra pacifies every obstacle including disease, poverty and the burden of past negative karmas. She helps us accumulate wisdom and vast merit. The poison purified by her Buddha family is Ignorance. Her Wisdom is ultimate Dharmadatu wisdom.

Her name translates as “Sovereign Mother of Space” (or sovereign queen). Akasha means “space” and “Dhatvisvari” in this context is sovereign mother.

She is the co-equal Female Buddha, wisdom partner (consort) of Vairochana Buddha. In Tibetan she is ying chukma [dbyings phyug ma].

Both Vairochana and Akashadatvisvari are depicted as White for supreme pacifying. It is also the color of the “space” element in mandala symbolism.

Akashadatvisvari overcomes the Poison of Ignorance and Delusion with the Wisdom of Ultimate Wisdom (Dharmadatu). Her Skhanda is “form”, her direction is “center”, her element is space, and her symbols are the Dharma Wheel and the Lotus. The Dharma Wheel represents the power of Dharma to overcome ignorance.

The activity of the family is Pacifying. She pacifies obstacles, disease, suffering, delusions, demons, doubts, fears, and negative karma. The Seed syllable of the Mother is the Sanskrit Om.

The Bodhisattva of the family is Samantabhadra, the spiritual son of Vairochana and Akashadatvishvari (not a physical son.)

The Mudra of Aksahadatvisvari is the Dharmachakra mudra.

Her sacred animal is the White Snow Lion.

She is an aspect of White Tara, and also has a Dakini aspect as the Buddha Dakini of the Five Wisdom Dakinis.
