New Crystal expedition ship to host whale researchers
Scientists to join Antarctic voyages
Scientists will join Crystal’s new expedition yacht to collect data on whale behaviour.
The luxury line has forged a partnership with marine research organisation the California Ocean Alliance in the initiative.
Ocean research will take place as the 200-passenger Crystal Endeavor embarks on a series of five remote cruises in the Antarctic.
The voyages of between 11 to 19 nights in duration will run from Ushuaia in Argentina between December 2021 and February next year.
Wildlife experts from marine conservation group ORCA will also join the vessel for three sailings in April and May 2022, including a 13-night voyage to Africa, Spain and Portugal; a 14-night sailing to Seville and Bordeaux, and a 14-night British Isles itinerary.
Crystal Destination Experiences director Walter Barinaga said: “It is a privilege to join with the California Ocean Alliance in its critical research to inform and promote conservation and management of our oceans and the health and survival of marine mammals.
“Crystal guests have a thirst for exploration and a passion for the oceans and the destinations and wildlife they experience on our voyages.
“They will, no doubt, be enriched by the chance to engage with and learn from the distinguished researchers from the alliance for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse ecosystems we explore.”
