Pinterest Shares Latest Halloween Trend Insights

Halloween is coming, which means it’s time to start locking in the details of your spooky season promotions, and which themes and characters you’re going to use for your parties, promotions, costumes, etc.

Pinterest’s latest “Halloween Trends Report” will help. The platform has shared its latest insights into key Halloween search trends, which points to what people are most interested in, and where interest will be this season.

As per Pinterest:

2024 Halloween Trend Report shows that users are leaning into pop culture with searches for “it girl Halloween costumes” up 170% since last year, celebrating rising new pop stars and icons with signature style. People are also searching for sports-inspired looks with “sports costume ideas” increasing 265% on Pinterest. Vintage Halloween is a popular theme in both costumes and decor with trends like “vintage Halloween” rising 50% and “90s Halloween decorations” up 140%.”

So a few considerations there, but interesting to note that there’s not an immediate stand out, like Barbie was last year. I would have assumed that Joker and Harley Quinn costumes would be on the rise, but then again, that latest Joker movie hasn’t been met with great reviews.

Maybe Beetlejuice?

In terms of specifics, Pinterest says that “Gothic Glam” has been a key, rising trend, with “soft vampire make-up” (searches up 475% year-over-year), “Gothic guy make-up” (+290%) and “clown make-up looks” (+1870%) seeing more interest.

Dressing up as pop culture “It girls” is also getting attention, with costumes themed around Charlie XCX (+2345%), Kesha (+510%) and Ariana Grande (460%) gathering interest.

I mean, dressing up as a really pretty person seems kind of like cheating, but I guess if that’s the trend...

Cheetah print makeup (+570%) and Leopard print makeup (+670%) are also popular, while characters from “Mean Girls,” “Love Island” and “House of the Dragon” are also trending.

“Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders costumes” (+550%) are another pretty trend, based on Pinner interest, while Joker and Harley Quinn are close to the top in couple costumes listing.

But they’re nowhere close to the top couples costume trend of the season: “Shark Boy and Lava Girl costumes couple” (+4245%).

In terms of food trends, “ghost pizza” (+850%), “Halloween popcorn bar” (+110%) and “Pumpkin s’mores cookies” (+390%) lead the way, while the key rising themes of the year are “Hippie Halloween décor” (+190%), “disco Halloween décor” (+175%) and “90s Halloween decorations” (+140%).

Some considerations for your Halloween approach, which could help to get your spooky season push on the right track.
