TikTok Partners With Sukeban for Coverage of Anime Expo 2025
A new partnership to promote Japanese culture in the app.

TikTok has announced a new partnership with wrestling league “Sukeban,” which will see TikTok host a range of exclusive content shared from L.A.’s “Anime Expo” later this week.
As explained by TikTok:
“Sukeban, the Japanese female pro-wrestling league and live events and entertainment brand, will partner with TikTok to deliver a special fan experience at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, taking place July 3rd-6th. The immersive activation will give Anime Expo attendees exclusive access into the world of Sukeban - celebrating anime, manga and Japanese culture, through a dynamic lineup of programming.”
It’s a somewhat niche partnership for TikTok, aligning with the rising popularity of Japanese culture in the U.S., as another means to play a role in the broader zeitgeist, and align with youth trends.
As you can see from the video, Sukeban is a sort of encapsulation of all things Japanese culture, which has sparked resonance with a big community in the app. The Sukeban profile has almost 50k followers, while broader discussion has facilitated all-new communities in the app.
This new partnership will further enhance that connection, and make TikTok a bigger player in connecting fans.
“TikTok will be a presenting partner for Sukeban's first-ever World Championship Fight, taking place July 5th as one of Anime Expo's Featured Performances. This five match card will bring together Tokyo's toughest wrestlers and girl gangs in a battle for the Sukeban Champion title, headlined by reigning World Champion Sareee Bomb defending her title against challenger Maya Mamushi. The event will also feature special musical performances and surprise appearances.”
Yeah, again, it’s a niche event, but it makes sense for TikTok to latch onto cultural trends like this, as a means to underline its role in connection, and bringing users together around their interests.
It’ll also be a big promotional opportunity for the app, with TikTok branding on Sukeban signage, and that could further help to align TikTok with this community.
Which may also be of relevance for your promotions, if you’re looking to tap into Japanese culture with your ads.
