Summer is officially here, and the upcoming 4th of July sales are sure to offer the first big chance of the season to take home must-have tech like iPads and 4K TVs at rock-bottom prices. With every retailer claiming to have the cheapest 4th of July sales available, tracking down the best 4th of July deals can seem like an impossible task. There’s another catch, too, as Prime Day is back on its normal July scheduling this year — just a week after the 4th of July — and that’s another sale you’re not going to want to miss.

The good news is that with 4th of July sales and Prime Day deals rolling out nearly back-to-back, shoppers can look forward to Black Friday in July — and we’re here to help you navigate it all. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2022 4th of July sales, what deals we expect to see from the event, and whether or not the Prime Day sales are worth waiting for instead.

When do the 4th of July sales start?

July 4 lands on a Monday this year. That’s pretty convenient, as federal holidays like this sometimes result in three-day weekends (Saturday through Monday) in the U.S. Of course, you’d expect 4th of July sales to be happening on the day itself, but the long holiday weekend starts on Saturday and you can be sure that many retailers will be kicking off their sales around then. Many 4th of July sales will likely start on Friday or Saturday at the latest, but don’t be surprised if you see some retailers running early July 4 deals all week long. Keep your eyes peeled during this time — that killer bargain you’ve been thinking about might pop up earlier than you think.

Where are the best 4th of July sales?

Where to find the best deals depends on what particular 4th of July deals you’re shopping for this summer. If you’re in the market for 4K TV deals, head over to Best Buy or Walmart. If it’s an iPad or Apple Watch, then keep Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target on your radar. Need a new mattress to help you get some shut-eye? You’ll want to look at a brand like Casper or Tuft & Needle. See where we’re going with this?

Anything and everything, really, as just about anything you can think of will be on discount. The 4th of July sales always bring up all sorts of deals for shoppers to reel in, on everything from clothes and furniture to electronics and entertainment. July 4 sales are a particularly good opportunity to grab some new summer goodies like outdoor furniture, grilling tools, and stuff for the beach or pool so that you can get ready to enjoy the great outdoors. We’re all about technology here at Digital Trends, though, and if you’re here, then that’s probably what’s highest on your shopping list.

Thankfully, you can expect to see plenty of great 4th of July deals on tech like iPads, laptops, 4K TVs, smart home gadgets, headphones, video games, and more when the sales roll around. More good news: We’ll keep you posted on all the best 4th of July sales as soon as they start happening so you can dive right in and get a leg up on other hungry deal-hounds. Bear in mind that Amazon’s Prime Day sale will be happening the week after July 4, though, so if you’re wondering whether you should wait for that, then keep reading to see our take.

Should you shop the 4th of July sales or wait until Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s answer to Black Friday, offering up some of the deepest discounts you’ll see all year — but should you hold out for it instead of shopping the 4th of July sales? Our honest advice: If you have Amazon Prime, then you might indeed be better off waiting until the 2022 Prime Day sales roll around on July 12 and 13. We expect that the Prime Day deals will be a bit better than the 4th of July deals, at least when it comes to pricey tech.

If you don’t have an Amazon Prime membership, on the other hand, then you’ll be considerably limited when it comes to what Prime Day deals you can shop. Sure, other retailers like Walmart and Best Buy run their own sales concurrently with Prime Day to compete with Amazon, but the best Prime Day bargains come from Amazon itself, and those are limited to Prime members. They usually come in the form of limited-time Lightning Deals, too, meaning that they don’t last the entire duration of the sale, and often sell out well before their time limit.

The long and short of it is this: If you don’t have Prime and you’re not planning on getting it (or you can’t take advantage of a free Prime trial to shop the sale), then we don’t recommend sleeping on these 4th of July sales. And even if you do have Prime and plan to shop Prime Day deals, pay attention to the July 4 sales, anyway. You never know what they might bring; that bargain you were planning to shop for come Prime Day might actually pop up during 4th of July weekend, and if it’s at that perfect price that you wanted, there’s no reason not to snatch it up. With these sales, you always have to be ready to strike while the iron is hot. Prime Day is a two-day event and the deals tend to sell out fairly quickly, so if you wait, you might miss your chance.
