British travellers to Brazil rise by 20,000 in 2024

British tourists to Brazil rose by more than 20,000 last year over 2023, new official figures show.

Total numbers reached 153,754 in 2024 against 130,239 during the previous 12 months.

This came as tourist office Embratur reported record levels of international tourism revenue, up 6% to $7.3 billion.

Brazil’s goal is to reach $8.1 billion from international travellers in Brazil by 2027.

Embratur president Marcelo Freixo said: “Our strategy to attract international tourists is paying off, the government is transforming into reality all the potential that Brazil has always had and has never been properly put into action.

“More tourists are arriving and with a higher consumption profile, which is reflected in this record result, much higher than expected.

“This money generates jobs in the economy of large, medium and small cities in all regions of the country.”

He added: “We have already started 2025 with indicators, such as the number of tickets sold, that point out to even more growth and new records.”
