Memorial service to mark five years since death of South Shields agent

South Shields is to hold a memorial service marking five years since the death of travel agent Chloe Rutherford in the Manchester arena bombing.

A service will be held in front of South Shields Town Hall on May 22 at 10am, ending with a minute’s silence.

Family and friends will have the opportunity to leave flowers at the memorial bench put up in Chloe and her boyfriend Liam Curry’s honour last year.

Chloe was beginning her career in travel as an apprentice for Westoe Travel in South Shields when she died.

Westoe Travel director Graeme Brett said: “It is hard to believe that it is five years since this tragic event took the lives of this beautiful young couple.

“The legacy carries on through the amazing work of their families through The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust which has so far supported over 1,000 young people to help them reach their potential in sport and performance.”

The town holds a number of events to remember the 22 lives lost during the bombing every year.

Businesses will continue the tradition of decorating their windows in pink and blue and residents will also wear wristbands in the same colours.  Fundraising events this year include a charity dance gala, gala dinner, golf day and charity football match.
