Tui Care Foundation launches fundraiser for Rhodes
Charity will support communities affected by wildfires
The Tui Care Foundation – the tourism charity established by Tui – has launched a fundraising appeal to support communities affected by the devastating wildfires in Rhodes.
It said: “For the past few days, areas of countryside on Rhodes have been burning and fire crews are doing everything they can to fight the inferno and stop the fires from spreading further.
“Local people have fled their homes and hotels and villages have been evacuated, with thousands of people making their way to safety in what the Greek government describes as the largest ever wildfire evacuation in Greece’s history.
“And in a country which is highly dependent on tourism, the livelihoods of local people are now in jeopardy and their communities have been badly affected.”
The charity said that 100% of every donation will go directly to projects on Rhodes and each donation made will be matched by the Tui Care Foundation – so for every euro or pound donated, the foundation will also donate a euro or pound.
In a statement on Twitter, Tui UK said: “The wildfires in southern Rhodes have been devastating for the local community and distressing for holidaymakers caught up in this natural disaster.
“The north of the island was untouched and as the situation settles, many resorts and hotels in the south are welcoming guests again, or preparing to do so.”
Many of its hotels in the south will be back on sale from July 31.
