The Oscar-winning “Silence of the Lambs” actress is reentering the world of law enforcement in “True Detective: Night Country,” which will see her starring opposite Kali Reis (“Catch the Fair One”). A press release announced that HBO has ordered the drama to series.
Set to be filmed in Iceland, “Night Country,” which marks the fourth season of “True Detective,” is set in Ennis, Alaska. Six men operating the Tsalal Arctic Research Station “vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice,” per the project’s synopsis.
“Tigers Are Not Afraid” filmmaker Issa López will serve as showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer. Foster is also exec producing.
“We are tremendously excited to return to the ‘True Detective’ franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her ‘Night Country’ installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles,” said Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming.
Foster also won an Oscar for “The Accused.” She was last seen in 2021’s “The Mauritanian.” Her credits as a director include 2016’s “Money Monster” and episodes of “Black Mirror” and “Orange Is the New Black.”
Reis, who is also a professional boxer, will follow up her acting debut in “Catch the Fair One” with “Black Flies,” an upcoming drama about a paramedic. She’s a motivational speaker in the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls movement.
